Was your loved one in a care home during the pandemic? Did you care for someone at home during this time? Or, did you work in the care sector during the pandemic?
We need to hear from you.
We also want to hear from adults of all ages who were in receipt of care in their own home or a care setting.
The UK Covid-19 Inquiry is investigating the impact of the pandemic on the publicly and privately funded care sector in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This is part of the Inquiry’s 6th investigation (Module 6) and will consider the consequences of government decision making on those living and working within the care sector.
Sharing your story will help us to get a full picture of what happened during that time, the decisions made within the care sector and the lessons you think could be learned.
Don’t miss your chance to have your say. To ensure your story can shape our investigations into the impact of the pandemic on the care sector, please submit your experience by 23 July 2024. Any stories submitted after this date will be considered later in the Inquiry, but will not form part of the specific investigation on the care sector.
I’ve shared my story because…
Lynn, a registered nurse and manager of a care home in Portsmouth, tells of the extreme challenges she faced in the care sector during the pandemic and why she’s shared her story.
Only the social care sector can tell its story, and we must be heard. Doing so will help shape the Inquiry, inform the lessons learned and help shape what must be a better future. By sharing our stories, we can help drive change.
Why should I share my experience?
Your experience matters. While we can’t change the past, your experience is unique and this is your opportunity to share the impact it had on you and your loved ones, with the Inquiry. Every story shared will help us learn lessons that could make a difference to someone in the future.
You can share as much or as little information as you feel able. We understand that reliving some of your experiences may be difficult. You can start the form, save your progress and come back to finish it when you feel ready.
What happens after I’ve shared my experience?
Every story shared with us will help the UK Covid-19 Inquiry understand the impact of the pandemic and identify lessons to be learned. Your experiences and learnings are fed into the Inquiry’s investigations as evidence and brought together to create recommendations and a record of the pandemic to protect future generations.
Your stories will be collated, analysed, and fed into the Inquiry’s investigations as evidence and brought together to inform recommendations and a record of the pandemic for future generations. Whatever information you choose to share will be protected in line with legal requirements, which means any details that could identify you will be removed before analysis and publication.
The animation below shows how your story will help inform the UK Covid-19 Inquiry’s recommendations.
Who can share their experience?
You must be aged 18 or over to use this form. The Inquiry is aware of the importance of understanding the experience of young people during the pandemic.
